Permit bays that switch off at five
Most Hillingdon permit bays are only for permit holders on weekdays between 9am and 5pm. Evenings and weekends, they're open to any car. Pay and display can be paid at the meter or on PayByPhone.
During the controlled hours, a visitor pass is the answer. The first ten for a property cost nothing, the next ten are £15.60, and you start the cleaner's session online; each visitor permit holds up to 50 sessions. Ask about it when the office rings to go over the job.
Skip the parking waiver. At £24.30 a vehicle per day, it's only granted for a short list of activities (a house move, a big delivery, glazing work), and carpet cleaning isn't one of them. If a paid bay is the only option, it goes on the bill at cost.
Which part of Hillingdon? Uxbridge, Hayes, Ruislip and more
Hillingdon's borough figures hide big swings from one place to the next. Each note below sets a place's own Census and VOA figures against the borough's, then says what they mean for a clean.
Uxbridge UB8
The Chimes went up beside Uxbridge station in 2001, and a quarter of Uxbridge's homes (25.7%) are from 2000 or later. The older town is still here, with 10.2% built before 1900. Small homes are common: 24.3% of households have one bedroom, against 9.3% in Ruislip. A studio flat's carpets are £35, and the smallest job is £67, so a studio with a sofa or a rug added makes better use of the visit.

Hayes UB3 · UB4
Hayes on this page means six wards, from Hayes Town, where the Grand Union Canal runs through the centre, out to Yeading, Charville and Wood End. Semis are the main type: 43.3% of households, above Hillingdon's 35.1%. Barely 2.1% of homes are older than 1919, while 44.0% went up between the wars. Hayes & Harlington station is on the Elizabeth line, though the cleaner arrives by car with the machine, so a space near your door matters more to us than the trains.

Harlington UB7 · UB3 · TW6
These figures are for Heathrow Villages ward, so Sipson and Harmondsworth are counted along with Harlington, whose parish church is Grade I listed. 45.6% of households rent privately, against 25.9% across Hillingdon, and only 39.7% own. That means plenty of tenants moving in and out. Book the clean the day before the check-out inventory so the carpets get their 5 to 7 hours to dry, and landlords can ask for the invoice split room by room.

Ruislip HA4
Ruislip grew as Metro-land once the railway was extended, and 54.5% of its homes are interwar. Most households own: 71.4%, well above Hillingdon's 56.6%, with only 19.6% renting privately. Three in four live in a house (terraced, semi or detached), so stairs are part of most jobs. When the carpet is yours and staying put, ask about protector after the clean; it's £33 a room.

Northwood HA6 · HA5
Northwood has twice Hillingdon's share of detached houses: 28.5% of households, against 13.9%. Around the old High Street, Chester Road and Hallowell Road, ornate Victorian brick houses have Local Architectural Special Interest status. Big homes mean long visits, and 27.5% of households here have four bedrooms or more; a four-bed house with a through lounge, hall, stairs and landing comes to £277. If you have a drive, the cleaner can park on it, a few steps from the front door.

West Drayton UB7
West Drayton's old centre is The Green, a conservation area with many grade II and grade II* listed buildings. Most of the town's housing is mid-20th century, and a good deal is newer still: 29.4% of homes date from 2000 or later, more than three times Ruislip's 8.6%. A third of households (33.3%) live in purpose-built blocks. If yours is one, the office asks which floor and whether there's a working lift, because a flat above the first floor with no lift is £10 a floor extra.

Eastcote HA4 · HA5
Eastcote House was demolished in 1964, but its walled garden, coach house and dovecote were kept for public use, and Eastcote House Gardens are in the Eastcote Village conservation area with the cricket pitch and Haydon Hall Park. Half of Eastcote's households (49.4%) live in a semi, against 35.1% for the borough, and three in four (74.8%) own. If your semi has a carpeted conservatory at the back, it has its own price: £29.

Hillingdon UB10 · UB8
Yes, there's a Hillingdon inside Hillingdon: two wards, East and West, around Hillingdon Hill, with the Church of St John the Baptist at the top. Its housing grew fast, and to a plan, in the 1920s, and 44.0% of homes are interwar. Three quarters of households (74.4%) live in a house, and terraces alone make up 28.8%, two and a half times Eastcote's share. So most homes come with stairs: a flight is £41, and stairs and landing take up to an hour.

The figures cover the wards named under each neighbourhood. Sources: Census 2021 (ONS, via Nomis): TS044 accommodation type, TS054 tenure, TS050 bedrooms, by 2022 ward; VOA Council Tax stock of properties by build period (CTSOP 4.1, 31 March 2025), LSOAs to 2022 wards (ONS best fit); postcode districts from the ONS Postcode Directory (latest), live residential postcodes.
Thirties houses from Ruislip to Hayes
Hillingdon's Local Plan calls it a suburban borough, with patches of 1930s building and classic Metroland estates, and semis outnumber every other kind of home. The Census puts it at 35.1% of households, with 13.9% in a detached house and 30.8% in a flat.
In a house that age, the hall and stairs take the brunt of every muddy shoe. Add bedrooms one at a time (£36 each, £29 for the box room), or do the lot: a four-bed house with a through lounge, hall, stairs and landing comes to £277. Every other room is on our prices, and the smallest booking is £67.
The borough also has 31 conservation areas, some of them old village centres, some by the canal. If the front room in one of those houses has a rug on a wooden floor, the cleaner washes it there, with a little space cleared round it. Silk, viscose and antique hand-knotted rugs go to a specialist. See rug cleaning for sizes and prices.
Six bulky items for £53, or a clean on the bed

For £53 the council will pick up as many as six bulky things, a sofa or an old mattress among them; it's £39 if you're over 65 and £94 for landlords. Bedding (duvets, pillows) stays behind. Bookings go through Love Clean Streets. If you have a car, the tip at Harefield, on New Years Green Lane, accepts sofas, mattresses and carpet from residents at no charge; bring your HillingdonFirst card, or your driving licence plus a household bill.
A mattress that's only stained can stay. The cleaner does the top, and both sides if it turns, on the bed. One is £35; for two mattresses it's £70. Leave it up to a day before the sheets go back on. Memory foam isn't cleaned, and bed bugs mean pest control first. More about mattresses cleaned on the bed.

Harder water in Northwood than in Hayes
Affinity Water supplies the Hillingdon postcodes we checked. Its 2025 reports average 348 mg/l in the Northwood zone, which Affinity calls very hard, and 265 mg/l in the Hayes zone, which it calls hard. Ruislip and Uxbridge town centre sit in between, at 285 mg/l in the Ickenham/Denham zone.
The machine runs on your tap water and your electricity, so leave both on. Carpets usually dry in 5 to 7 hours; an open window or the heating on helps.

Hillingdon questions
- I let a shared house in Uxbridge. What changed this year?
Additional HMO licensing now covers the whole borough, from 24 August 2026 to 23 August 2031, for homes with three or more people from two or more households that fall outside mandatory licensing. Turning a family home into an HMO for three or more unrelated people also needs planning permission anywhere in Hillingdon since a council decision in November 2025. Between tenants we clean room by room and can split the invoice.
- Do you clean sofas here too?
Yes: £83 for a three-seat sofa, or £149 for a three-seat sofa and two armchairs. The cleaner checks the care label first and works on fabric only. Sofas usually take 12 to 15 hours to dry, so a morning clean is best.
